Kidlington under 13 pairs headed for Stonesfield on a sunny evening, for a match that was rearranged due to the long-forgotten wet weather in May. We also welcomed two of our under 11 stars to play who have shown great promise in the younger age group - Matthew Skertchley and Luca van der Linden. Daniel Hunt, taking on captaining duties for the day, lost the toss and Stonesfield decided to bat. There was some great bowling from all our players: Max Earp and Ollie Fellows taking wickets, Lewis Bray, Daniel Hunt and Dylan Dyer all coming close. Our under 11s Luca and Matthew bowled very well, for only 8 and 4 runs respectively. Jacob Evans volunteered to go behind the stumps and did an excellent job. They restricted Stonesfield to 249, a gettable target. Billy Worsley was once again the pick of their batters, hitting an incredible 21 in his short alloted time at the crease.
Our first pair Dylan (4) and Ollie (7) made an excellent start, running very well between the wickets and picking off the bad balls. Daniel (7) and Luca (10) kept up the run rate, Luca hitting a glorious boundary. Stonesfield's bowlers got a bit tighter to Max (3) and Matthew (2) but they still did an excellent job of seeing the bowlers off. By the time our last pair Jacob and Lewis came in there was some work to do, Kidlington still needing a net 6 runs to overhaul Stonesfield's score. This was potentially a tricky task, but Jacob Evans was in no mood to leave it to chance, hitting a quick fire 19 with four boundaries, ably assisted by Lewis (5). In the end it was a comfortable victory, KCC ending on 271, but it came down to that last pairing and they did the job!
A very enjoyable game, many thanks to Stonesfield and the social club for providing chips for the players afterwards! Thanks also to Jeremy Skertchley for scoring.
