On a sun-drenched Saturday that turned into a jumper-worthy afternoon, Kidlington 3s pulled off a stonking win against the previously unbeaten Gawcott & Hillesden 1s in a match that had everything: wickets, drama, chirping, and a bit of British weather mischief.
With skipper Shan away, the reins were handed to the ever-composed Anish, who marshalled his troops like a seasoned general. G&H won the toss and fancied a bat, but they hadn’t reckoned with the fire and guile of KCC’s bowling attack.

? Bowling Brilliance
Siva and Gokul opened the bowling with venom, Siva striking twice early thanks to sharp glove work from Nadeem behind the stumps. Gokul bowled with menace, consistently troubling the batters, but was cruelly wicketless early on.
Enter Ran – the wily veteran – who bowled like a man half his age, snaring 4 wickets in 13 overs with a cocktail of cutters and cunning. He struck early in his spell, removing the aggressive No. 4 and another batter soon after. Mo joined the attack from the other end but struggled to find rhythm. Meanwhile, Ran kept the pressure on, clean bowling one and dismissing another with the help of a sharp catch from Gokul. He finished with excellent figures of 13-3-46-4.
Anish and Gokul rotated from the other end, maintaining the squeeze. Anish chipped in with the prized wicket of Murray, while Gokul finally got his reward with a thumping LBW. A sharp run-out by James Lal and a brilliant diving catch from young Oliver – who was buzzing around the field like a bee on a mission – wrapped up the innings.
Despite a few butter-fingered moments in the field (something to tidy up in training), KCC’s overall fielding effort was sharp and spirited. G&H, led by their skipper’s gritty 67, managed to keep the scoreboard ticking, but regular wickets meant they were eventually bowled out for 157 in 41.4 overs.

? Batting Wobbles and a Heroic Fightback
Then came the chase – and with it, a plot twist. The sun disappeared, the wind picked up, and suddenly it felt more Scarborough in April than Oxfordshire in June. The G&H opening bowlers licked their lips and got to work.
Chasing 158, KCC’s innings started like a soggy biscuit. Nadeem was first to go, bowled by the tall and fiery John. Raz looked promising but wickets began to tumble like a dodgy soufflé. Jacob, James, Oliver, and Nick all fell cheaply – two of them run out in a comedy of errors. At 45 for 6, the G&H fielders were chirping like seagulls at a seaside chippy, and things looked bleak.
But cometh the hour, cometh the calm. Siva and Gokul strode in with the swagger of men on a mission. They soaked up the pressure, saw off the opening bowlers, and then tucked into the change bowlers like it was Sunday roast. They steadied the ship with a 72-run stand full of grit and class. Siva made a gritty 36 before falling with the score on 117.
Still behind the rate, Anish joined Gokul and the pair turned the tide with a flurry of boundaries and smart running. Gokul brought up a classy, unbeaten 53, sealing the win with a boundary and a fist pump. Anish finished on a run-a-ball 21*, cool as you like.
