On a hot and humid day, KCC visited Deddington CC in the Telegraph Cup 1st Round hoping to kick start a cup run!

Deddington won the toss and chose to bat on a green wicket and immediately it looked a poor decision as Dan Farrant and Michael Tippett started with brilliant control as the ball moved around in the air and off the pitch and made it difficult for the Deddington openers. Farrant thought he'd made the breakthrough only to see an edge fly threw the slip cordon but it was Tippett who made the early inroads! He first dismissed the dangerous G.Duncan as he chipped the ball to Waseem Azad at midwicket before quickly removing N.Bletchley in the same over with a swinging delivery that hit middle stump! Tippett thought he had his 3rd wicket but Farrant spilled a low catch a fine leg, however he made up for it as he had O.Roberts caught by Andy Oliver at mid on. Tippett was proving unplayable on a slow wicket as he finally claimed his 3rd wicket of the day when H.White was adjudged LBW to a full delivery! N.Murphy came to the crease but was Tippetts 4th victim as he again missed a swinging delivery and chipped the ball to Sahil Kaylan at mid off. Farrant was replaced by Muhammed Usman who continued the pressure as Deddington found themselves on 60/5. Tippett claimed his 5th wicket when the attacking L.Bletchley missed a straight one and he soon had his 6th as as J.Roberts was caught by Simon Smith at midwicket. Tippett was then replaced by Sahil Kaylan who was making his 1st XI debut and he looked right at home as he took his 1st wicket with a beautifully pitched delivery that found S.Shadbolts edge and Jack Desmond took a smart catch at 1st slip! He thought he had his second with a mirrored delivery only for it to fly between Richard Walker and Desmond! With Deddington on the brink, Kaylan took his 2nd wicket as he had M.Oldfield caught by Muhammed Usman in the covers after getting some extra bounce. Waseem Azad replaced Usman and it took him just 4 balls to wrap up Deddingtons innings as S.Oldfield played on to his stumps, leaving Deddington all out for 104!

After tea, KCC set about their small target and Richard Walker and Andy Oliver showed they didn't intend on hanging around as both found early boundaries! With KCC racing to 40 inside 4 overs, Deddington finally took their first wicket as Walker was caught at mid off trying to accelerate the score further. Jack Desmond joined Oliver in the middle and the pair continued the good run rate as they added a further 40 runs before Desmond was the next wicket to fall again being caught trying to kick the score on. Oliver had continued his good form against Deddington which included two centuries last season, however with this small target he went for 40 after he had played some good strokes and found a bit of form. Sahil Kaylan and Simon Smith were now at the crease for KCC and with only 20 runs needed for victory, the pair played sensible cricket waiting for the bad ball as Kaylan swept the ball for 4 to get KCC over the line in the 21st over and sealed a good victory and sees KCC progress to the Quarter Finals of the Telegraph Cup!
