On a hot dry day at Stratfield Brake, the 1st XI hosted Britwell Salome CC looking to secure their place towards the top of Division 4!

Upon losing the toss, Captain Richard Walker was asked to bowl by the Britwell Captain! Steve Litten started well bowling three consecutive maidens with good pace and accuracy, however fellow opener Sam Britton struggled with consistency as Britwell raced to 40 inside 5 overs before Litten deceived the batsman with a brilliant slower ball. This however brought the star Britwell batsman to the crease as he almost single handedly took apart Kidlingtons main bowling attack. Dan Farrant replaced Britton but with the ball not swinging and also struggling with consistency Farrant took punishment from the Batsman, as did Muhammed Usman who replaced Litten. Both of Kidlingtons top wicket takers were struggling and replaced by Edd Willmot and Steve Litten who brought KCC back into the game after Britwell had raced to 150 after only 20 overs. Willmot and Litten bowled with brilliant accuracy completely slowing the scoring rate and when Wilmott finally broke the partnership, Britwell were on 170 with 15 overs remaining and looking like posting a big score of 250+ but when Sam Britton took the wicket of the Britwell batsman who had scored a superb century, the run rate rapidly declined and with Willmot continuing to bowl tight Britwell limped to 237/4 from their 45 overs with KCC feeling they had managed to pull back the game keeping Britwell below 250 on what was a good batting wicket!

After another brilliant tea, KCC set out chasing down the target knowing it was well within their range! Andy Oliver and Simon Smith were the opening batsmen, but when Oliver was bowled trying to cut! it was not the start KCC needed. Edd Willmot joined Smith in the middle and the pair had the partnership that Kidlinton were desperate for as they added 70 runs in rapid time with some brilliant shots all around the ground with KCC bringing up the 100 inside 16 overs! When Smith went the ball after scoring a brilliant half century, Kidlington needed to keep up their good start, however when Waseem Azad went for a duck, Kidlington needed another solid partnership and captain Richard Walker and Willmot added 50 valuable runs at rapid pace before Willmot was out LBW falling short of his half century. Walker was looking assured in his innings with some beautifully timed shots through his favoured cover and midwicket regions. Jonny Boyes fell quickly and Farrant went after smashing two quick boundaries leaving Kidlington in danger of being bowled out before the inevitably reached the required runs. Steve Litten joined Walker and the pair again added 35 quick runs with Litten and Walker really beginning to open up with the latter hitting two big sixes over the sight screen! Kidlington moved into within 20 runs of victory when Litten was caught trying to finish the game quickly. Muhammed Usman joined Walker and he supported Walker well and when Walker struck another superb boundary down the ground, it sent the KCC players and supporters into raptures as Kidlington secured victory by 3 wickets with Walker scoring a brilliant 84 not out in what was a proper captains innings!
