U13 super 8s win
By Mark Fransham
A glowing result on a chilly night
This was our first super 8s game of the season, and a welcome win to add to our tally. Stonesfield were fielding a relatively young team, so we used this opportunity to give two of our under 11 stars - Luca Van der Linden and Jack McGrath - an opportunity to play hard ball cricket. Stonesfield won the toss and decided to bat first. Jacob Evans and Edward Symes opened the bowling and were very tight from the off. Jacob went for just two runs off three overs. Ed looked very threatening and took two wickets in two balls - sadly the hat trick ball didn't take a wicket! Luca, in his first under 13 game, took a wicket with a comfortable catch from Jacob Evans. Jack McGrath looked right at home in his first hard ball game too.
First in to bat for Kidlington were Jacob Evans (9) and Dylan Dyer (6), who did a fantastic job against some extremely difficult bowling from Billy Worsley. They set the tone with some excellent calling and running for quick singles, which the rest of our batsmen followed. Ed Symes (6) and Malek Hussain (1) were the next pair, Ed looking very confident in his second game for the club. Tom Lord (2) was unlucky to get out to a loopy delivery, but his partner Luca (10) was on fire, hitting two boundaries. Daniel Hunt (2) and Jack McGrath (2) saw out the remaining overs with some more quick singles; they both look very confident driving off the front foot so we expect plenty more runs from them during the season!
Kidlington's tight bowling and quick running between the wickets meant that we were the winners on the night. Stonesfield had some stand out performances: Billy Worsley with the ball, and young Eddie Russell who bravely faced Jacob Evans' difficult bowling before testing the batsmen himself later on. Stonesfield's player of the match was Aston who top scored with 8; Kidlington's player of the match was Luca Van der Linden who took a wicket and was top scorer with the bat.
Well done everyone, especially to our two under 11 players Luca and Jack, and thanks to Stonesfield for an enjoyable game. Thanks also to Resh Thakrar for sorting the refreshments and to Stuart Symes and Jamie Burns for scoring.
