On a hot summers evening we had the pleasure of going to Cropredy CC for our U13 game.
With only 7 players in attendance when the game was due to start at 6pm and the Toss about to be made Ned Pratt (Captain) came up to Manager Moss to ask what to do, most people with 7 players with 4 more arriving late would have chosen to Bat, but not Moss he said if you win the Toss go and field, and sure enough Nedd won the Toss and elected to field, and I may add most people looked at me very odd on the decision made!
Although I have amazing faith in our opening bowlers and fielding, Owen and Oliver were just in fine form Owen 4-3-1-0 Oliver 4-1-7-0 kept it so tight for the opening 7 overs Cropredy were 7-0 from 7 overs, could it get any better, well yes with some great (and not so great) fielding Cropredy found themselves at 29-4 from 17 overs, Kimber 3-1-4-1, Blackburn 4-1-13-1, Pratt 2-0-3-1, Merriman 1-0-4-0, with 2 great catches from Pratt and Blackburn although Burton came in and hit a quick fire 16, taking most runs off Earp 1-0-7-0 and Suckling 1-0-12-0. Finishing up on 55-4 from 20 overs, and making what looked to be a crazy decision very worthwhile.
Now will 11 players as Sternberg turn up in the 20th over of our fielding it was time to Bat, Manager Moss wanted to give some other players a chance with a low score to chase, so the run chase began, Behal and Sternberg opened the batting and Behal looked so confident it was a pleasure to watch until being bowled to the spinner for 11, Suckling yet to bat this year came in and hit a few really nice shots until falling C&B for 7, Sternberg stuck around for a while until being run out for 9, this brought Earp to the crease but was caught after a glorious 4 was hit, Owen pushed down the order from opener saw us home with 6 Not out, with young Marcus Hewitt at the other end batting for the first time this year 0 not out, finishing on 56 for 4 from 14 overs.
A great game, good support from Parents and Supporters, with the usual thanks to Paul Lazenbury who was in attendance umpiring again for us, on what was a 140 mile trip just to help out the lads and support them.
