Szafnauer stars in 1st game of the season.

It has been a difficult start to the year at KCC with the 1st and 2nd XI senior sides losing so far, so it came to the U13 side to keep up the good work from the U11 group last year with the added strength of Thomas Owen and Lauren Smith to the squad.

Thomas Owen was Captain and after a suggestion from Manager Moss he won the toss and put Wolvercote into Bat, All I can say is we have some serious bowling talent in this team, The Owen brothers bowled fast and with good accuracy and kept the score down, on came Szafnauer, Smith, Oliver, Pratt, McErlain, Sternbeg and they all bowled well, the highest Wolvercote batsman score was only 11, with Sandelson behind the stumps , but it is a bit different this year for him with the speed of young Thomas Owen and actually let a few extra’s through in the game, but as usual he completed some amazing leg side stops.

This was a real team performance in the field, but the highlight has to be the Szafnauer one handed catch at 1st slip diving forward from the much improved spin bowling of McErlain after I repeatedly asked him to move back, (Sometimes it is worth ignoring the manager!)

So Captain Owen kept up with our team spirit and elevated non bowlers Kimber and Blackburn to open the batting, whilst it was a solid start 7 runs from 7 overs we started to panic with some banter coming from other players (Which manager moss was not happy with), then losing Kimber (1) then Smith (0) N Owen (4), the pressure was really on us but we bat till 11 in this side, in came Szafnauer (25 not out) and for the 1st time ever I saw in his eyes he wanted to prove a point, hitting some quality shots all around the park, which then also woke up young Blackburn (18 not out) to bring us home in 15 overs, with all the big hitters not even needed.

Now we move onto the game at Oxford on Monday night to keep up our good start to the season, apologies I may have a few figures incorrect but as I had no scorer and I had to umpire so the book was not great therefore if you would like more detail and facts please come along and score!
