A tough day for all. by Oscar Hewitt

On yet another scorching Saturday the 3rds aimed to add to their two wins, this time it was Chipping Norton 2nds who just so happened to be lower than us in the table so it was always going to be a very closely contested match. We travelled to Chippy with a youthful 11 which soon turned into 10 when we lost Moshin Dogar. So the captain Hewitt tossed up and won the toss, acknowledging that the wicket was incredibly green he opted to bowled first. would he live to regret that decision?

So with the thirds missing Ran Da Silva and Aman Kaylan, it was to be Ummer Dogar and Oscar Hewitt to open the bowling. Ummer started with great line and length, not giving any boundaries and was looking very threatening. Oscar also kept a tight line and was beating the bat regularly, he was unlucky not to take a wicket and his first spell concluded on figures of 6-0-28-0. Ummer was the one to make a breakthrough when he brilliantly bowled the dangerous looking opener N Niazi. It then wasn't long before he removed K Niazi, who was a cat with nine lives to be polite. Sohail Dogar replaced Oscar and immediately made his mark removing Tompkins for LBW with a sharp in swinging ball. we now had chippy 63 -3 at drinks and felt we had the game in in control, however this is when events started to turn sour for KCC. In came two new batsman, Phipps and Watlington. These two dispatched anything that was off length or line and showed no remorse while doing it , and in no time Phipps would raise his bat for a well played fifty. it. Despite best efforts from skipper Hewitt and Matthew Suckling, no breakthrough was made and the batsman continued their merciless rampage as KCC toiled in the hot sun. Phipps would now reach his century and KCC were feeling despondent. However, events changed as Ummer finally removed the destructive Phipps for 105. this injected some life into our field, until we realized that the new batsman, A. Dark, was not looking to hang around and immediately attacked our bowling with an aggressive attitude. He was removed by O Hewitt (caught brilliantly by father P Hewitt) having made a very quick 36 in no less than 6 overs, no exaggeration. in the same over Oscar clean bowled Savage for a double wicket maiden. Sam Kimber chipped in with the bowling until Chippy's 45 were complete and they concluded on a staggering 307.

We're still in this game aren't we?

The order was decided and opening the batting was the father and son partnership of M Kimber and S Kimber. However Sam was first to fall due to a decent catch from the chippy fielder. Now in was captain Hewitt who looked as comfortable right from the off. Mark Kimber played some nice shots but was bowled playing across the line to a straight one. Ummer Dogar would now join Hewitt at the crease and looked to play smart and rebuild by forming a good a partnership. Both played nice shots which raced to the boundary but in the end they both respectively fell 8th and 9th overs, with Hewitt's LBW looking rather shifty. Matthew Suckling failed to trouble the score whereas Sohail looked promising but misjudged one to be the 5th wicket to fall. Now it was Nick Suckling joined by the returning Josef Hewitt. these two formed a good partnership with Nick looking impressive dispatching balls that raced to the boundary and Josef looking good hitting two fours. Josef was removed by a good ball which introduced, Oscar who was caught because he lost concentration played a stupid shot which he didn't need to play ;)
In the end KCC put up a good fight but never really took the game Chippy, special mentions to Mark who let very few byes through and was resilient behind the stumps, and Nick Suckling who looked like a natural with the bat and gave KCC a respectable score. well played all as we look to next week were we venture to the other Norton, Hook Norton.
