3rds halted by weather after Moss and Woods build challenging total.

The first home match of the season for the 3rd XI may not have ended in victory but it certainly gave plenty of entertainment and encouragement for the rest of the season.

KCC elected to bat first on an overcast day with the threat of rain later. Paul Hewitt and Mark Kimber started solidly but Kimber unfortunately played across the line and was bowled. This brought Harry Brock to the crease and he continued his good form with a couple of decent partnerships with first Hewitt and then John Moss. Moss joined Brock with the score on 31 after Hewitt went LBW playing across the line and some repair work was required. They both dug in and stabilized the innings while keeping the score ticking over. When Harry was bowled by a good delivery by McPhee Josh Swadling continued the good work and played a vital innings in a partnership of 32 with Moss. Swadling was rock solid in defence and this allowed Moss to launch an attack on the Hook Norton attack. Josh went to a fine delivery by McPhee and this brought Gary Woods to the crease. Normally renowned for his powerful hitting this was a strangely subdued innings from Woods,

However it proved to be just what was required as Moss was in belligerent mood and dealt mainly in boundaries, this pair were never going to run many quick singles! Moss and Woods went along at a steady rate of 4 per over but as they reached the last 10 overs Moss unleashed a barrage of attacking strokes including 13 x 4s and 3 x 6s, one of which was a top edge to square leg which cleared the boundary with ease. Moss was finally out forcing the pace in the final overs, bowled by a beauty from the young bowler William Ingham who bowled a superb second spell picking up 3 wickets. Woods continued to push the score along with Josh Behal joining him and scoring a fine 10 not out to see out the innings and take KCC to a very competitive score of 187 off 45 overs. After tea KCC took to the field but could only complete one over of the Hook Norton reply before the rain prevented any further play.

A disappointing end to a fine individual batting display and really encouraging team performance. Lots of positives to take forward for the rest of the season with a really strong youth element and the club chairman leading the charge.
