Strong innings from Lauren Smith

KCC 3rds were without many regulars including captain, vice captain and experienced batsmen so it was another day of toil in the sun with a young but enthusiastic team. Batting first KCC got off to a bad start with an early wicket but a good partnership between Mohit Talmaki (14) and Richard Harrison with a well played 15 got them going and Ben Crawford (11) looked good on debut. However KCC soon collapsed from 41/2 to 44/6 and a total of 50 was on the cards but in came Lauren Smith to play a fine innings of 21 with calm and sensible batting in a partnership of 47 with Martin Keighery who top scored with 24. The Hewitt brothers took KCC past 100 in an entertaining partnership of 21 with Josef scoring 11 and Oscar 5.
113 looked a bit light and Swinbrook got off to a good start mainly thanks to extras, KCC with a makeshift wicketkeeper were struggling to stop the byes and wides. Oscar Hewitt finally made the breakthrough clean bowling the Swinbrook opener and Ben Crawford got his first senior wicket in his last over. Mohit Talmaki picked up his first wicket for KCC and turned the ball a fair bit, Martin Keighery got the other wicket and took a great catch to complete a good day all round for him. Jack Launchbury bowled well in his 4 overs and deserved some reward. KCC dropped a couple of catches which might have made it more interesting but in the end Swinbrook eased home after only 16 overs. A tough day but once again the youth keep us optimistic for the future.
