Joseph Keighery left unbeaten as 3rds struggle in the rain

KCC 3rds were short of players yet again and fielded 9 players with 5 of them youth players for their match against Hook Norton. KCC bowled first with U13s Thomas Owen (0/36) and Oscar Hewitt (2/24) opening the bowling and doing a fine job, Thomas keeping a tight line and Oscar picking up two wickets. Paul Hewitt (4/53) replaced Oscar and John Moss (1/49) came on for Thomas. With gaps in the field it was easy for the batsmen to keep the score moving and a fine innings from young Ethan Bennett set them up for big score despite wickets falling regularly. Joseph Keighery came on late in the innings to pick up a wicket after keeping wicket for most of the innings. Rain restricted the match to 40 overs per innings. KCC replied with a steady start, 43 for the first wicket with new player Mohit Talmaki (16) looking good before misjudging one to be caught at mid off and fellow opener Pau Hewitt (16) soon followed in a similar fashion. John Moss briefly threated to get on top of the bowling with a couple of good hits but it was soon a familiar collapse as wickets tumbled quickly and only Joseph Keighery looked comfortable as he was left stranded 15 not out as KCC finished on 88. A disappointing batting display but as always a great effort from the youth players and a day to remember for Oscar as he picked up his first wickets in senior cricket.
