The weather once again ruined a good day of cricket. KCC 3rds were looking to get back on track after a run of defeats and with a full strength team we were in confident mood. With rain on the way we agreed to play a 25 overs game and it look like we would struggle to bat that long as wickets tumbled and KCC slid to 7 down for 30 runs. However John Moss brought some sense to proceedings and held the innings together with a fine knock of 19 (including another trademark Moss six!) which allowed two of our under 15 stars to bat out the overs and set a challenging total. Jack Launchbury (29 not out) and Joseph Keighery (8 not out) batted with ease and some common sense that was missing from the openers. They worked a lot of quick singles and Jack cracked some lovely boundaries showing us what a great prospect he is.
So a target of 99 off 25 overs was always going to be tough on a damp pitch and KCC picked up an early wicket to get Charlbury on the back foot. Simon Hague bowled 6 excellent overs for only 5 runs. The batsmen were unable to get any momentum with Simon giving them nothing to hit. Kamran Ramzan's bowling was uncharacteristically erratic although he did pick up a couple of wickets. The captain, Paul Hewitt, decided to take on the responsibility as first change bowler and picked up 4 wickets in 5 overs to leave Charlbury reeling on 36/6 when the heavens opened and that was it for the day. A shame for KCC as they looked well set for a much needed win but a great game at a lovely ground and so good to see Jack continue the success of Kidlington Youth Cricket.
