3rd XI go down fighting at Westcott

After a week of pain in getting players into the side we went with 9 players to Westcott,

The pitch looked damp and green, Captain Moss was going to bowl on this thinking it could just give us a chance if he won the Toss, but he lost the Toss although to our amazement they elected to Bat, did they know something we did not!

Well they certainly did as the pitch took no longer than 30 minutes to dry out and played very well.

Opening the bowling was Ramzan who could not get his line and length, and Jeremy Launchbury who had a great spell 12-2-26-1, then came on young Jack Launchbury 5-2-25-0, and Tony Launchbury replacing Ramzan ending with figures of 12-1-72-1 but the big hitter of Hussain was dispatching the ball all around the park and taking apart Moss 6-1-39-0 (Which included 3 mighty sixes) Avery (45) and Wilkinson (51) but Kamran came back in for his second spell bowling over the wicket this time after words from Skipper Moss and cleaned up finishing with figures of 10-0-25-4 a great spell from our U13 which makes it all worthwhile turning up with 9 players, we must not forget to mention 2 amazing catches from Davie and Webster both 1 handed to hard hit balls! Wescott finishing on 230-8 from 45 overs.

We knew we had a chance even with 9 men with a strong top 6 who could all bat, getting off to a flyer with T Lauchbury and Dogar smashing 23 from the 1st 3 overs!, but Dogar (10) was out to a great ball, next to follow was Davie (0) going for a shot and being caught to a great catch, then Jeremey Launchbury (6) getting another great ball to dismiss him, but then Moss came together with Launchbury who was looking very stable hitting some big shots including a massive 6 to start the drive forward, unfortunately Launchbury (44) played a bad shot just when we were cruising and left Moss in the middle with not a lot of batting left, but Webster (15) started to play with a straight Bat and Moss digging in at the other end we were still in with a chance, How many times have you seen a Moss scorecard with 10 singles to start his innings!, but then Webster (15) was C&B, so Moss decided to have a go and we were still in with a chance with the run rate way above what we needed, but with Ramzan (6) being caught leaving Turner and Moss at the Wicket, Moss swinging the Wand with a 4-4-2-6 to reach 52 Not out, only then to have Turner (0) LBW brought the innings to an end, a good effort but with 9 men it was a fair result
