3rds lose despite century partnership of Eagle and Hewitt. by Oscar Hewitt

We knew it was going to be a tough day at Britwell Salome when we were short on players for the second game running, but despite that it was a brilliant effort from the KCC’s players. With only nine players it was vital that Captain Paul Hewitt won the toss. Fortunately he did so and decided to bat. Martin Eagle and Freddie Webster were to open the bating for KCC. It was a slow a start against some very good bowling but after a very solid first ten overs the first wicket fell as Freddie Webster couldn’t avoid diverting the ball into the hands of the wicketkeeper. Paul Hewitt struggled with the bowling at first as did Martin Eagle but eventually they both managed to start knocking the ball about and building a good score including an exquisite six from Paul Hewitt. However he gave it away with a misjudged pull shot and was caught. Martin Eagle continued to score despite wickets falling and reached a well-deserved 50 before being stumped off Ahmed who finished with figures of 5-35. Razwan Dogar came in and smashed a quick 24 in a couple of overs and more big hitting from John Moss (a late arrival from France!) and Matt Comley (17 not out including 4x4s) saw Kidlington to an unlikely 185 for 7 off 45 overs after only 40 off 23 overs.
Britwell started their innings carefully as Kamran Ramzan and Ran Da Silva bowled well. However the wicket held up well and the batsmen soon got on top and scored quickly despite losing two wickets. Kidlington battled to stay in the game but an excellent century partnership from the Little brothers put the game beyond the reach of KCC.
A good game and great to see the youth perform well again. Special thanks to the Chairman for making the effort to get to the game straight from holiday in France.
