The mighty 2s headed to Minster Lovell on the the back of 3 wins in a row. Looking to continue the winning streak, captain Jamie Stothard fielded a strong side capable of taking wickets and scoring runs. Unlike the team's form, Stothard could not win the toss and therefore, KCC were put into bat on what appeared to be a good wicket at a postage stamp of a ground. With the threat of rain overhead, the umpire was immediately reluctant to get the game going but eventually with much persistence from both sides, the first ball was bowled at 13.08. Stothard the mainstay of the opening partnership was joined at the crease by, what must be his millionth partner this year, Neil Talmaki who himself was promoted from the glorious 3s. It was Stothard who started stronger, looking solid and getting in behind the ball well, before launching a full ball over the bowler's head for 6. At this point, Talmaki had been building confidence and getting his eye in scoring slowly but looking solid. Finally, Talmaki went after the bowlers, clipping and driving beautifully. It's a shame he uses a Spartan bat, because those shots would've looked magnificent with Gray-Nicolls kit. After 9 overs, at 29-0 the heavens opened. What initially seemed to be a short shower, began a long and dull wait for a result that seemed inevitable. After some beautiful scoring off the field (yes colours were used for individual bowlers), wicketkeeper Francis Young decided to make use of the rain delays to nap in the changing rooms. Finally, at 15.40 the captains shook hands and the game was abandoned. A good day out for the 2s, with some runs scored, lunches eaten and winks caught. Onto next week with Michael Tippet and Young joining forces to potentially lead the side as Stothard (yet again) is at a wedding during the season.
