victory from the jaws of defeat

on a lovely sunny day the stiffs were away at yarnton and cowley .. having never played their before and the pitch not looking great , The skipper was hoping to lose the toss so he didn't have to make a decision!!... this was not to be and Oliver won the toss yet again and went against allof his usual thought processes and elected to bowl.
this proved a good choice as Oliver Jnr and Lauchbury Snr started off bowling very tight , Oliver was first to strike dismissing the opener "Ace" with a deceptive ball that gently swung away and clean bowled him. Naheed didn't trouble the scorer and was caught at short extra cover for jacobs second wicket.
Launchbury then joined in on the act after Waqas was starting to look settled having him caught for 22 . Jed replaced jacob after his allocated 6 were bowled and his first ball disappeared into the hedgerow for the first of a few sixes that Deepak dispatched .. despite deepak being the aggressor hitting a decent 38 we were taking regular wickets at the other end and also a run out with some fantastic fielding from Jack and Jonah .. in the 32nd over jed took the third if his wickets to dismiss yarnton for what looked a well below par 81.
a lovely tea was enjoyed by all with a delicious (albeit a little spicy for the skipper) homemade curry and some amazing cakes too :)

KCC had seen the downfall of yarntons batting and the skipper advised all to get forward and play straight .. if only he took his own advice as he was dismissed in the third over going for a big shot .. KCC were soon to be 14-2 in the 5th over and yarnton were starting to get the desire to win.
2 became 3 in the 8th over with jeacock missing a straight one to become Rashids second victim from his excellent spell of 11-1-23-2 from his first game for 5 years. however his bowling was to be shadowed by the other opener Adnan who took what can only be described as a once in a lifetime caught and bowled to dismiss the chairman for an aggressive 7.. how wrong was I with that statement as the very next over he took an even better caught and bowled to dismiss debutante Kimber ..
Baiju and Jack were at the crease and both batted superbly well ..rotating the strike nicely and picking off the bad ball and had the highest partnership of the kcc innings of 23 .. kcc were struggling at 35 for 6 and things looked dire when jack was clean bowled with Waqas first ball with KCC now on 54 for 7 .. Young Oliver joined baiju and they started where jack had left off and again rotated the strike well and picked off the bad ball, and they enjoyed the secocnd highest partnership of 19 before jacob became Waqas second victim.
we were now in single figures and the skipper was biting his nails as he has no hair to pull out.. however he had nothing to worry about as Baiju hadnt looked in trouble and Jonah who can run singles when none are on took us to within the brink of victory..jonah scampered a single and made his ground easily to bring the scores level ... waqas came in to bowl and jonah had a swing and a miss ..the keeper flapped he also missed and so did fine leg and we crossed the line in the 35th over with the help of top scorer Mr Extras who got 20 followed by an excellent undefeated 19 from baiju.
a fantastic low scoring game where we showed great determination and team spirit throughout , well done lads you did us proud
