defending the impossible... nearly :)

on another lovely warm day the stiffs traveled to tetsworth for the semi final of the steve dixon cup. Oliver won the toss yet again and decided to bat hopefully giving the young lads chance to watch england beat panama.and things prety much went downhill from there on in
The decision to bat didnt look good with KCC in immediate trouble with jeacock being dismissed in the first over without troubling the scorer .
Razwan was next to go for a duck in the 4th over and kcc were looking in dire trouble .. things didn't improve as late call up john moss pulled his hamstring and had to bat with a runner and thats never easy..
we lost wickets regularly without managing to put any partnerships of note together , Moss and Launchbury junior top scored with 16 a piece and noone else except extras getting into double figures ... the main force of tetsworh strike force was zaman who returned figures of 8-2-18-7 and prety much blew away all of our batting could muster . kcc were dismissed for 58 in the 21st over

with it being far too early for tea we turned straight round and started to try the impossible.. down to 10 with the skipper deciding it was best for moss not to do any more damage to himself ... now kcc couldn't defend 58 surely ?
the openers got off to a flier and were in double figures by the beginning of the over .
however kcc were going to make it difficult and tony struck first dismissing opener newton with isaac following closely behing being bowled by saleem .. tetsworth were now 15-2 .. stevens then ran himself out thanks to some fantastic keeping again by jonah and TCC were now 21 for 3 .. by now one of tetsworths usual top order batsman who hadn't batted had left the ground thinking it was a walk in the park.. well kcc had different ideas . with baiju taking another wicket and launchbury taking a further 2 TCC found themselves 37 for 6. Oliver jnr came on to replace baiju and by now tetsworth were stuttering and getting nervous.. and who could blame them after all kcc had managed to defend a low score recently ..
with jacob and tony bowling tight the batsmen looked to increase the score but launchbury jnr took a fine diving catch from jacobs bowling and TCC were now 49 for 7 .. Oliver struck again this time it was Baiju taking a good catch making up for his earlier drop and TCC were now 57 for 8
TCC needing 2 runs and KCC needing 1 wicket with the absent Miller not able to bat could KCC pull it off .. unfortunately the answer to that is no.. but boy what a thrilling weekend of cricket for the stiffs .. if our bating performances were half as good as the bowlers have been we would 100% be winning more games .. lots of positives to take from the weekend and good luck to tetsworth in the next round ...who wants to pay Sundays anyway :)
