Oliver and Pratt steal the show with bat and ball

you will never quite understand how much that tag line means to me :)

anyway enough of the sentimental stuff lets get to the guts of the game, Oliver hoping to win the toss once more on what can only be described as a scorching hot day at the lovely setting of Farringdon CC, Unfortunately this would be the first of a few Oliver mistakes and he was thinking in his head tails never fails but out of his mouth popped 'Heads' and low and behold it landed on tails.. as expected on this glorious day Farringdon immediately opted to bat .
KCC had almost the perfect start with both Launchbury Snr and De silva finding the right line from the off and both picked up early wickets.. Farringdon were sitting at 12 for 3 in the 7th over and Johnson and Cornish looked to rebuild the Farringdon innings .. and they looked set to do this so after the first drinks brake Oliver made the harsh decision to Bring Off ran who had bolwed superbly for his 7-1-21-1 and opted for spin, Bringing Jeacock into the attack and with a short boundary to defend both Cornish and Johnson managed to keep finding the gap with Jeacock going for 17 in his first over. Launchbury continued to keep things tight his end with and exceptional spell once more with figures of 12-3-35-2 .
Oliver Took jeacock out of the attack with his 5 overs going for 38 ,
Young Ned Pratt was to take over where Launchbury left off and bowled with such great maturity and control it was an absolute pleasure for all to see, Oliver brought himself into the attack and in his second over had Cornish adjudged LBW for 57 much to the dismay of his batting partner who was adamant that he had hit it and wanted everyone to know !!!
After the situation had calmed down oliver bowled Belcher first ball ....as he walked off the scorers intervened and had a chat with the umpires ..the umpires then made the bizarre decision to call Belcher back to the wicket as the had miscounted the balls in the over and he was bowled on the 7th delivery!! (not sure that this is within the laws of the game but to keep within the spirit of cricket I accepted this and we moved on)
Belcher went on to score 23 unorthodox runs , after almost every over Oliver Bowled when moving between overs Oliver Jnr would say to his dad I should be bowling now ! .. and this was the second mistake of the day that I didn't do so sooner as bringing Oliver Jnr onto bowl alongside Pratt Jnr turned the game again, and Both Bowled superbly with Ned picking up 2 wickets from his 11 overs with many more chances created and Jacob picking up 3 wickets including a caught and bowled in his 4 overs .. so the veterans of Launchbury and De silva and the under 13's Pratt and Oliver did an amazing job and Farringdon finished on 195 for 9 from there 45 overs (Pratt 11-0-57-2 .. Oliver 4-0-12-3)

A nice tea was had and we set our minds to chasing down this total.
Oliver and Jeacock opened up the innings with Jeacock immediately looking to dominate the bowling attack with anything wayward being dispatched to the boundary. Farringdon made frequent Bowling changes but this didn't deter Jeacock with him bringing up his 50 in the 12th over, Unfortunately he didn't go on with attempting one too many big shots and Holed out to the Gilo Esq Cornish who bowled what can only be described as lovely floaters :)
The loss of the fist wicket had KCC at 119 and Brought Hewitt to the crease who unfortunately fell straight for the trap that had been set and hit a full toss to silly mid off for naught,
So now Pratt Snr and Oliver Snr were at the crease again and Pratt was given the instruction to play his natural game and he did that with ease, and immediately looked in control at the crease dispatching the first ball back over the bowlers head for a boundary, jon continued to strike the ball well with Oliver flagging at the other end with the immense heat really taking its toll now, Having collapsed from this position twice this season and only adding single figures to the score!!! both Oliver and Pratt were determined to see it through and Jon hit the winning runs in the 36th over finishing on a assured 43* and Oliver also carrying his bat for 89*

a great team performance with our juniors being the absolute highlight for me with the ball, they bowled the toughest overs with batsmen looking to go after them and they bowled with maturity beyond their years , an absolute pleasure to captain and watch , sorry those of you who didn't get a bat or a bowl but we performed well as a team and did exceptional in the field
